Homes Underwater and Streets Washed Out in British Columbia

Flash flooding has left damage across several cities in British Columbia. Mudslides and washed-out roads had stranded evacuees. The military was called in to assist with evacuation efforts.

Social media showed images of Hwy 1 completely washed out. Roads were impassable and covered in water, trees, and mud.

A local resident noted it had been raining for the last several days. Some places received up to 10 in (25 cm) of rain.

The city of Merritt was placed under a mandatory evacuation on Monday at 10 AM. Local cellphone networks were unable to handle the volume of calls and residents were being asked to only make calls related to evacuation.
