A super typhoon in the Pacific Ocean reached the equivalent of a category 5 hurricane before weakening some. It is the strongest storm of 2022 so far.
Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan will all be following this storm closely.
The typhoons predicted path is to make a sharp northward hook before Taiwan and then effect South Korea and Japan in the coming days.
While the storm is forecast to avoid the bulk of Taiwan there are several small islands that are in the direct path of the storm.
Flooding and heavy wind gusts may be felt by some of the southern islands of Japan. Acording to Accuweather they could see up to 185 mph wind gusts. Thursday afternoon the storms intensity had is currently 155 mph sustained winds with gusts up to an estimated 190. The storm system is currently traveling at 8 mph.
Most recently the structure of the storm has slightly collapsed.
The storm has an odd path and hopefully hooks straight north to avoid Tiawan.
