A large 7.8 magnitude earthquake has occurred in south/central Turkey near Gaziantep and the Syria border.
The earthquake was classified as RED on the Pager alert from USGS. This indicates significant financial impact and a high death toll. The death toll on Thursday is approaching 20,000.
Several large aftershocks have occurred. A second 7.5 earthquake struck north of the original epicenter. This is the worst earthquake in Turkey in over 100 years.
A natural gas line ruptured and caught fire lighting up the sky overnight.
Both Turkey and Syria have significant search and rescue operations ongoing.
