The Prayers Heard Round the World

On Monday night Damar Hamlins heart stopped seconds after being tackled on the field while playing football with the Bills.

CPR was administered for 9 minutes. The Bills teammates huddled on the field to pray as medical staff attempted to resuscitate him. He was revived and transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The next day as ESPN was providing an update Dan Orlovsky says “Maybe this is not the right thing to do but it’s just on my heart that I want to pray for Damar Hamlin right now” and with that began to pray live on air.

When I saw the clip of him praying this morning I was shocked. So many of us believe in the power of prayer but we rarely use it. I can’t think of the last time I saw a prayer live on TV, especially during a news update. Prayer is not only the right thing to do, it is the most right thing we can ever do. We don’t need lights, cameras, or even the internet to be connected with the most powerful Help we have. God hears every prayer we cry out to Him.

When we feel like all hope is lost we fall on our knees, imagine the difference we could make if we turned to our knees first every time because we realize where all hope comes from.

I enjoy helping others, it’s why I started this site, to help others prepare and respond to disasters. But, if I fail to tell you where my real Hope comes from, then I have completely failed to prepare you for the largest catastrophe that will ever face you.

God’s gift of salvation through the death of His Son Jesus is the only source of real Hope we have in this world.

Disaster preparation, or even responding to disasters to help others means absolutely nothing if you are not prepared for death itself.

No amount of stockpiling, knowledge, or medical care can prevent you from dying one day.

As this world’s moral fibers decay around us our hope can be found only in God. The best response we can ever have is to cry out to God for mercy and forgiveness.
